Why Medium is becoming my favorite social app

How I currently use the different Social Media Apps in my Writing Journey; Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Substack, Memo’d, LinkedIn and Medium.

Facebook

I have thousands of Facebook friends, I had intended to have just close acquaintances on the app, but then that circle just kept expanding.

From high school, I went to University, then joined student clubs and societies.

Then, I travelled around a bit and made more acquaintances. I went on exchange programs. Have worked in several places since graduation, have dabbled into blogging and a few entrepreneurial pursuits.

And so my network there, is a colorful mix of friends, past classmates, church or club members, distant family, potential clients and customers. I use my Facebook for sharing my write ups. I have found that writing the post on there gets more views and engagement than updating it as a link.

Facebook is the social media app I’ve been on the longest and it gets me a few followers every now and then, but I use it for cruise basically and because a lot of my outer circle also use it, I get to catch up on their life events.

Instagram

Instagram is too picturesque for me.

Y’all I can’t do the glam for the gram. (Not even at gun point)

I’m a bit too lazy for all the packaging that is involved. I follow a few writers like Cory Allen and I rarely write on there. I am yet to find a strategy for sharing my write there.

But I see that it works for others, all you need is good packaging.

Twitter

I still do not know how to use the bird app. I usually share my links and make sure to hashtag #writingcommunity and any other relevant hashtags.

The timeline gets too congested and choked up for me. It’s a riot of topics on there.

The more you are on twitter, and the more you engage, the more followers you could amass. However, I currently do not have the time to spare.

You could spend hours before really finding what resonates with you, especially as concerns writing.

So currently I use twitter to stay up to date with current affairs.

Substack

I’m on there as well and have downloaded the app. I must say, I still have not quite gotten the hang of substack. I love its idea of notes which means that I may not always have to elongate my thoughts or ideas before posting them on the net.

Memo’d

Memo’d is awesome. I don’t use it as much as I would like to but I love that it gives you a template and an opportunity to practice short form writing. It can be a nice to place to share and gain ideas.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is the corporate version of all the apps. For the longest time I was on it for the sake of potential employers.

I have recently begun posting my health related write ups to it and I’ve found that posting in relevant groups may help in getting more readers.

Medium

I love that I don’t need to chat with anyone. It doesn’t show if I’m online or not. It doesn’t show when last I was seen.

How bad an introvert can someone be online? Right?

Every once in a while you come across someone who really shares your thoughts and sentiments and you get a vibing moment, I love that there’s no obligation to follow or keep interactions going.

I love that ideas can be exchanged over a topic or several topics.

The separation of topics is amazing. I get to skim over my favorite writers and the topics which I’m interested in. All of which I can refine whenever I feel like.

I never get lost on medium, I’m not sure how many times I logged onto Instagram and couldn’t remember why I logged on in the first place or lost track of how much time I’d spent on there, wihout getting anything done.

Also medium gets to let me save drafts upon drafts. I put some of my writing prompts on here.

I don’t feel sad if I don’t get likes or claps or loves. This is helping to build my writing portfolio and I’m here for it.

And honestly I always believed that writing about medium was corny but here I am. I really have been telling everyone how much I love medium and just had to put it in writing.

Karen Banes wrote that medium was more like a magazine and I subscribe to that school of thought. I get exposure to lots of publications and writers.

I spend more time on medium currently than any other social app and I don’t regret the time spent here.

I love that every time I’m on here I’m improving myself.

My writing goes a step further by reading something others have written or by trying to perfect my drafts.

My perspectives also get broadened by seeing another’s point of view or alternate take on a topic of interest.

I really love medium.
