Member-only story
I’ve never been one to shy away from difficult conversations. Whether at home, in school, in the workplace, church and in my relationships.
When I was much younger, I was really tactless and just spoke my mind without thinking of the consequences.
Now that I’m older, I’m still learning to be tactful but I mainly speak in order to not be held hostage by my thoughts.
I feel like if I have to keep quiet in order to maintain the peace, as people say, then this peace is too feeble for me.
Why We Should Have the Difficult Conversations
People may keep quiet for fear that a topic could lead to confrontation or the exposure of something unpleasant but difficult conversations may very well be the bedrock of strong connections and lasting relationships.
Another reason to not shy away is because of this biblical quote, “For nothing is secret that will not be revealed, nor anything hidden that will not be known and come to light”
Since everything will someday be in the open the sooner you talk, the better and the higher the possibility that underlying issues will be resolved and future disasters averted.
