The Extent of God’s Blessings, Genesis 12:1–9

The Lord had said to Abram, “Leave your country, your people and your father’s household and go to the land I will show you.” — Genesis 12:1 (NIV)

Abram was 75 years old at the time God called him to leave his country.

There are a number of things that may keep one from enjoying fully God’s Blessings.

There are a number things in life that would keep us from achieving set goals.

1. Our Country

Abram had to leave his country. We too would have to leave something behind in order to move forward.

Leave that mentality, leave that mindset, leave your cultural or tribal restrictions, leave your father’s or mother’s way of thinking (leave your father or country does not contradict God’s command that we honor our parents).

Sometimes lack of resources is not the problem, it’s just the country limiting you.

Leave your country and go to a new land. God has translated us from a Kingdom of darkness into the Kingdom of light.

Our principles, philosophies and values all need to change. The laws by which we previously abided upon need to change.

We can’t experience God’s goodness if we still have attachments to our past way of living.

In 1519, Hernán Cortés led a small band of men to Mexico, they came in ships. Upon landing, he ordered the ships to be burnt. This grim story gives an example of a man’s determination to not turn back, to conquer or die trying.

Do you still have bridges back to your past? You have to burn your bridges. Forward ever, backward never.

Leave the things that fill your heart and time. Leave the things you are fond of, leave them all and move forward!

If you can abide by this — God’s promise is this, “I will make you a great nation” (Genesis 12:2)

Do not limit God, Do not belittle God. God wants to multiply your life.

Genesis 12:1 has to be obeyed for verse 2 to follow.

Do you simply want to be blessed by God or do you want to be a blessing to others?

These sermon notes were jotted down at Hillside Community Church, Asokoro on the 14th of April 2024.

N.B

I don’t go to church as often as I’d like, because of my work, but I’ll try to make this regular, sharing what I’ve gotten of the message.

If you liked this post, please it give a clap or two. Thank you 🙏🏽
