I really do not know
I dare not make up an answer
To what extent can you strip something
so beautifully layered?
How can you streamline such bounding thoughts?
You can’t underwrite or overwrite poetry
The use of contrast can never be too little
The use of metaphors never too much
Quatrain, quintain, couplet, slimerick, epic
Its form as slick as a chameleon’s
You can read it slowly or sing it passionately
Never an undue embellishment of language
Nor over-simplification of prose
It sits pretty like the pleated hills of Plateau
It rages voraciously like the veracious falls of Victoria
It has no fixed message
You get what you see
You find what you seek
Poetry is what you need it to be.
