The only way to understanding is to put in practice.
The only way to know how is to actually do.
Doing!
You must know what to do.
So knowledge is key!
Once you know what to do, you must do it. After you’ve done it, then you know more.
Every moment you hesitate or delay, knowledge passes you by.
There are many ways to cook rice, but someone had to do it to find out if it truly worked.
Doing helps you to distinguish which way works and which doesn’t and you may stumble upon other things in the process of doing. Many inventions were stumbled upon in the process of doing.
While looking up the etymology of the word understand, I came across the Greek word for it, ‘epistamai’ which means I know how, or literally translated as I stand upon.
To understand means to have gone through a thing.
You can know what grief means but you can’t understand it until you have personally experienced it.
So embrace life’s different curve balls, face your fears and challenges and emotions head on, then you may have understanding in certain areas to be able to help others along the path.
Oswald Chambers said, “when you know what you ought to do and you do it, then you know more”
There’s always a difference between the teachings of one who has the knowledge and one who has the knowledge and has also gone through or under-stood a matter.
Know a thing and understand it to a point where it can never be taken away from you.
What Should we Strive to Understand in Life
A few examples from my recommendation
Love
You must take a chance of love, it won’t be fairytale endings, it may be unreciprocated, but you took a chance
Yourself
Give you a chance to succeed. Be you write you think, say what you mean. Celebrate your wins, learn from the mis-takes. Know your strengths and weaknesses by living. Truly live.
People
Give people a chance and learn to forgive. The more you forgive, the more broad minded and big hearted you become. The more your capacity for the world increases.
God
I believe in Jesus. It may not be your cup of tea, but He is love, life and light to me. He is good news to me.
What other recommendations would you have for what we should strive to understand in life?
Cheers, Nguper.
