What is Time?

Is it the hour that your clock reads?

Is it daytime because the sun has come out to play?

Is it winter because the year is winding up?

Is it a jubilee year? No that’ll be 2025, correct me if I’m wrong.

What century or millennium is it?

We try to describe time and give it meaning in various ways.

We could never run out of words in our attempts to quantify time and this is in the English language. Try adding up all the other world languages, applying the different contexts and meanings in which time is used in various spaces and we still couldn’t define time in its entirety.

Who can tell the history of time? Who has understood its workings?

It existed before man did. Record keeping has captured some aspects, but who can keep what is always on the move?

The Oxford English Dictionary says it’s “ A finite extent or stretch of continued existence.”

It is finite, yet infinite.

We seem to have a lot of it, yet it is never enough.

It is as common as it is premium.
