I think with influence through writing we really do not whom it works on, control however is an intentional thought to get someone to behave a certain way.

For example, when I write faith based articles, I want people to consider Christianity, the ball is in their courts- but my write up could influence them to decide. If I force my kids to go to Church because I’m a Christian, their free will isn’t involved.

Influence is not always intentional, control is.
