Lessons on surviving interactions with humans. Part 1:Be as wise as serpents, as harmless as doves.
I changed my job and this week. Gosh! I don’t know where to start from.
You know that popular question people like to ask, “are you a cat or dog person?”
Yeah, I always never answer that, heck! I am still coping with humans, I won’t be forced to choose which extra specie of animals to like.
Honestly I think the toughest thing about working as an adult is the people. Everyone has their goal, everyone has their agenda or everyone has their experience and conviction.
You can say I have trust issues, I do and I hope you do too. That’s a topic for another day.
But it’s a lot of work everyday. (I wrote this screaming) It takes a lot of brain power to interact with others.
You can’t appear overly aloof or too friendly? You shouldn’t seem too inquisitive or too uninterested? You can’t be too smart or too dull?
Depending on the person, you might have to adjust your answers or manner of speech. You shouldn’t divulge too much either. You should take everything they say with a pinch of salt as well.
Interacting with people is the hardest part of adulting.
I don’t seem to be doing too bad but internally my battery has to recharged very often.
People think too much or maybe I think too much?
I was wondering how to conclude this piece and this quote came to my mind,
“Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves”
I haven’t had much dealings with serpents so I’m not sure how wise they are but what comes to mind when I think of a snake is how slippery they are, able to slide and slither and some can also camouflage into their surroundings.
I’m getting goose bumps just writing this, anyway;
I think I’ll be holding on to flexibility and
learning to adjust in my new place of work. Every system and workplace process is different, the key is to know how it works, know the gaps and loopholes and adjust accordingly.
And I know absolutely nothing about doves so I’m thinking they are birds that kind of mind their business. Therefore, I will be minding my business at my new place of work, so help me God.
This might be a series on surviving the workplace as an adult.
Give as many claps as you can, if you’d like to see me continue this as a series.
Cheers ^^
