My Top Poetic Verses from the Bible #1
“Who is this that cometh out of the wilderness like pillars of smoke,
perfumed with myrrh and frankincense,
with all powders of the merchant?”
I chuckled when I read this verse.
It reminded me of some happenings in my life where reciting this verse would have been perfect.
I’m not one keen on excessive fragrances and I absolutely cannot stand incense for whatsoever reason.
Have you ever walked by a person and felt that they docked themselves in a bath of fragrances or perfumes, instead of just spraying it lightly?
I took a pause at this verse and re read the previous verses again. And then I think I read the whole chapter again and again, up to 5 times.
Solomon(or the writer) is searching for his lover in the earlier verses.
Then, he extols the ladies not to tempt him or awaken his love.
But then, he does a double take, which led to the above poetic line.
Well, a few verses later he boasts of the chariots he has made,
at which point I’m feeling admiration for him, oh you young man with the blood of a warrior flowing in your veins,
but the last lines help me change my mind again to, ‘This guy was a ‘complete’ womanizer.’
I’ll let you read it for yourself,
“King Solomon made himself a chariot of the wood of Lebanon.
He made the pillars thereof of silver,
the bottom thereof of gold,
the covering of it of purple,
the midst thereof being paved with love, for the daughters of Jerusalem.”
Y’all, the Bible is a great book, I’ve been learning poetry from it of recent and just thought to share my thoughts on chapter 3 of the Songs of Solomon (King James Version).
Good good read!
