My daughter, Myself and a Jar of Nutella

Oh the joy of cheap thrills

It’s a beautiful Wednesday morning

I’ve just finished a long night shift

My sister who helps me with the kids has to be elsewhere this morning

I tell her I’ll give my daughter a bath and she can run along

Within a few minutes though

I fall fast sleep

Sprawled out on the couch

Like an overworked ‘Jacki’ — I mean this literally

My daughter shuttles between the TV and my self

I remember her handing me a bottle of water to fill up her water bottle

At another time she brings her panties so I can put it on for her

I do not remember when I took off her diapers

When I manage to wake up

She is smiling at me with her big brown eyes

Beautiful daughter of mine

Seeing her smile reminds me to be grateful for the life that I have

In between refusing everything I have offered her for breakfast

We both sight a jar of Nutella

One spoon goes in, then another, then another

How can you dip the spoon and not lick it?

So we quickly use up about four spoons

This sinful act has left us reeling in joy

Two beautiful girls

Yet to freshen up for the day

Who cares anyway?

And later on when someone wonders

Why the jar of Nutella is empty

We will also join them to wonder along

Gleefully!

This rat race is never ending

The lows can really weigh you down

Find joy everyday in the little things

Learn to savor every bite of cheese

And relish in any little sweetness you find
