Against all Odds: How to be Resilient
My friend dragged me out to have our nails done today. This was a much needed disruption to very predictable weekend
She had already let me know that we had to be there by 7:00am. The man who owned the saloon was good and only worked on a first come, first serve basis. So she gave me an early morning call to get ready and we made it by 7:30am just early enough to be the second and third on the line.
He arrived by 8:00am, took some time to set up his work environment and tools and then we awaited our turn.
This was a nice salon where the owner really prioritized his clients.
And so as soon as the lights went out, they scrambled to put on the generator, but there was some problem with the circuits and the lights kept going on and off.
The very first time the lights had gone off, my friend quickly took out her phone to use the flashlight, not a word of complaint from her or myself.
While the man kept on apologizing we really didn’t mind. We were both doctors who had at one point in their work life relied on the touch light from our phones to examines patients, attend to traumas and even complete Caesarian sections.
