A Disillusioned Woman
It’s always a thing of joy when someone gets engaged. There’s jumping, squealing, cheering and lots of celebrating.
My good friend and I always join in the celebrations. Everyone once in a while, she gives me the look that says ‘should we tell them?’ We both laugh and zip our lips, ‘nobody asked us’.
You see both of us always feel that no one told us the truth about marriage.
In our culture, ladies have been primed, to get into a husband’s house, it doesn’t matter if you trained at a good university and graduated with the best grades, and have a great job, ultimately, a woman should end up in her husband’s house.
And it’s crazy that nobody prepares young girls for life actually and more crazy that no one prepares them for anything else involved in ‘marriage’. There’s a lot of talk about getting the title of ‘Mrs’, ‘wife of’, ‘mother to’ but no one prepares ladies for what that role entails.
The duty of dealing with emotional-baggage and trauma, the fact that everyone will bare their worse sides when shit hits the ceiling, that bookkeeping and good management is just as important, that one needs to learn to apply tact and wisdom when dealing with relationships in a big family, that familiarity does breed contempt and so it’s…
